Lime Repointing, Masonry Repairs & Structural Alterations for Traditional Buildings

We specialise in the repair, stabilisation and conservation of historic brick and stonework, using traditional lime mortars and heritage methods that respect the character of older buildings. Every project begins with careful assessment and sample matching to ensure colour, texture and tooling are appropriate to the original fabric.

Our Services Include

  • Lime Mortar Repointing – hand-raked joints, matched aggregates and tooling to replicate the original appearance.
  • Brick & Stone Repairs – consolidation of damaged masonry using compatible mortars and near-invisible patching techniques.
  • Crack Stitching & Structural Repairs – installation of Helifix or equivalent stainless helical systems to stabilise fractured walls.
  • Chimney Rebuilding & Flaunching – dismantling and like-for-like rebuilding in lime mortar, with attention to detailing and leadwork.
  • Brick Replacement & Tinting – sourcing and tinting of reclaimed units for a seamless finish.
  • Gauged & Decorative Brickwork – repair and reinstatement of arches, treads and detailed features using fine lime mortars.

Structural Works & Alterations

In addition to traditional masonry repairs, we also carry out structural works and sympathetic alterations to listed and period buildings. This includes:

  • Structural underpinning and foundation consolidation
  • Installation of structural steels, beams and lintels
  • Modifications and new openings within existing masonry
  • Structural crack stitching and load redistribution
  • Temporary propping, sequencing and safe working around historic fabric

All structural work is carefully planned in line with conservation principles, ensuring compatibility with original materials and compliance with listed building requirements. We liaise with engineers, architects and conservation officers where necessary to ensure the work remains both structurally sound and historically appropriate.

Our Approach

Every building tells a story. Before any work begins, we inspect and record the condition of the masonry, identifying areas where modern cement or hard repairs may have caused moisture retention or decay. We then produce a tailored specification using hot-mixed lime, NHL 2 or NHL 3.5 mortars, depending on the structure and exposure.

Our priority is always to preserve as much of the original fabric as possible while ensuring long-term stability and breathability.

Pointing Styles Offered

  • Weather-Struck
  • Flush
  • Ribbon/Tuck
  • Double-Struck • Penny Roll
  • Fine Gauged Joint

Why Choose Lime

Lime mortars allow moisture to evaporate naturally, accommodating minor movement and preventing spalling or trapped damp. When used correctly, they ensure the building continues to breathe and age gracefully.

Follow-On Work

Once repairs are complete, we can carry out finishing works such as lime washing, conservation cleaning, or targeted detailing to restore the full façade.
