Gentle Steam Cleaning and Low-Pressure Wet Blasting for Brick, Stone and Façades
We provide sensitive cleaning for traditional and historic buildings, using professional superheated water and low-pressure wet blasting systems to remove dirt, algae, paint and surface coatings without damaging the original material. All work is carried out in line with building conservation best practice, ensuring your property is cleaned safely and effectively.
Superheated Steam Cleaning (MAC Avant System)
Our MAC Avant system operates in the same way as well-known DOFF and ThermaTech machines, using a controlled mix of low pressure, high temperature and minimal water flow to clean masonry without harsh chemicals or abrasion.
It’s ideal for:
- Removing algae, moss, lichen and organic growth
- Lifting general atmospheric soiling
- Cleaning brick, stone, terracotta, sandstone and lime render
- Preparing surfaces for repointing or lime washing
This method gently opens surface pores, allowing masonry to dry quickly and remain breathable — perfect for listed and pre-1919 buildings.
Low-Pressure Wet Blasting (Torbo System)
For heavier soiling, coatings or paint removal, we use a low-pressure Torbo wet blasting system. It combines a small amount of water with a fine, adjustable abrasive, giving excellent control and preventing dust while minimising surface impact.
Typical applications include:
- Removing modern paint or cement residues
- Cleaning soot-blackened brick or sandstone
- Stripping failed coatings before restoration
- Exposing original detail without eroding edges
All media and pressures are carefully selected to suit the substrate — we never use aggressive blasting on soft or historic materials.
Our Approach
Every property is first assessed to determine the most appropriate method. Often, a small test area is carried out to confirm the right settings and media. We avoid harsh cleaning that can trap salts or moisture and instead focus on breathable, reversible solutions that respect the fabric of the building.
Aftercare and Follow-On Work
Cleaning is often the first stage of a wider conservation process. Once surfaces are properly prepared, we can carry out lime repointing, brick or stone repairs, and façade consolidation — ensuring the building not only looks right but performs correctly.
We can also provide short photographic reports for records or insurance purposes when needed.
